Safe sleeping quarters are mandatory for Huntington's disease patients and different techniques suite different needs.

When sleeping and getting out of bed become safety issues, patients with Huntington's disease need alternative bedding. For the various issues that the patients have, there are different solutions that can fix the problems:

Balance/Clumsiness

  • bed and chair the same height for easier transfers
  • installing a "trapeze" bar onto the bed frame

Falling out of Bed

  • a hammock, oversized (7'x7')
  • a bed placed on the floor
  • a low platform bed
  • a modified hospital bed, with foam padding added to the rails to avoid injury

Adding rubber-backed throw rugs around the bed and having the HD patient wear rubber-bottomed slippers/socks can prevent needless injury.
