Migraines can be very disabling for sufferers. This type of neurological disorder has telltale symptoms and also "auras", or warning signs, even in children.
Those who suffer from migraine headaches know the pain is no joke. It can be crippling, nauseating, and terribly drawn-out. Following are the signs and symptoms for adult and children's migraines.
Traits of typical migraines can include one-sided head pain (moderate to severe), nausea and/or vomiting, sensitivity to light, sensitivity to sound, and throbbing head pain. Some people experience “auras”, or warning signs, that a migraine is imminent. Warning signs include tingling sensations in a limb or limbs, visual disturbances such as flashing lights, zigzags, or blind spots, and possibly speech and language problems. Earlier warning signs can include sweet cravings, thirst, depression, drowsiness, or irritability. The migraines themselves last from 4 – 72 hours, and frequency depends on the individual.
Migraine headaches also occur in children, and can be just as disabling. Signs and symptoms can include nausea and/or vomiting, increased sensitivity to light and sound, possible lightheadedness, and warning signs such as fatigue, yawning, restlessness, and odd food cravings. Immediate “auras” before migraines aren't as common in children and childhood migraines also tend to be on both sides of the head.
