My last article reported on Michael Moore's "Sicko", a movie about the healthcare insurance situation in America. Moore documented good, timely healthcare in Canada, although there are reports of long waits for medical treatments. So I took matters into my own hands and posted the question to my fellow Suite101 writers. Suite101, as you may well know, is a Canadian company, so I got responses from several Canadian writers and one American writer. The general feeling is that yes, there are some problems with Canadian healthcare. Sometimes people have to wait for elective surgery or particular doctors. But in a pinch, they are seen for medical emergencies and if they cannot see a particular doctor of their choosing, they can just as easily go to a clinic or hospital (of their choice) and be seen in a timely fashion. For free or for very little out-of-pocket expense.
