» loveisjoy - Vertigo at the Movies

My problem with vertigo began in an innocent way. My husband and I decided to see Brad Pitt's latest movie, Babel. I wasn't feeling well since I had awakened with a sinus headache and my balance seemed to be off more than usual. But, I popped some Tylenol and we decided it would be good for me to get out of the house.

Well, I have to tell you that sitting in the dark theater, watching that movie made me sicker than I have been in a long time. The darkness of the theater, coupled with the bright lights of the screen, and my ongoing headache made me feel like the whole theater was spinning. There were a few scenes set in Japan where the characters were in a night club, and the pulsing neon lights were just too much.

I ended up absolutely sick to my stomach and I'm still horribly dizzy a day later. It's Christmas Eve, and I'm supposed to be hosting dinner for my daughter and grandson. I have no idea if I'll be able to do much with them. Right now it's hard to keep my eyes open.

I have had MS since 1993, and I've had double vision, incoordination, and bouts of vertigo in the past, but never to this extent.

Has anyone ever had vertigo triggered by a trip to the movies? I'm afraid to go back to the movies at this point...

» VirgoVertigo - xmas ruined

Hey, I just want to say that I too just started experiencing vertigo. However I do not have MS. My onset began christmas eve morning just after I woke up. I felt dizzy all christmas eve and even threw up at one point. I went to bed hoping I would feel better when I awoke. But its now Christmas morning and I still feel like everything around me is moving! Its very dizzying it feels like a hangover. I am hoping it will stop today or I will have it checked out at the doctor's tomorrow.

» Feature Writer Jennifer Gerics - chronic vertigo

I never had vertigo until last Dec ('05) and it also involved nausea. I thought I was catching the stomach virus that was going around. But the nausea subsided and the dizziness increased. I tried mecclizine (Antivert?) to stop it, but to no avail. It went away after about 4 weeks, so I'm guessing it was an MS attack (diagnosed in early '05 after 8 years of symptoms.)Had it again in May, even worse with other symptoms----trouble walking, swallowing, face going numb. I was treated with IV steroids for 3 days, then prednisone for 14 days. Seems to have stopped the attack. I haven't had a problem with movies, but I felt so sick the beginning of last year that I didn't even venture to the movies. I did have a problem with crowded, loud places (still do sometimes) where I felt lightheaded and couldn't think straight. I hope both of your cases of vertigo have tapered off because it is hellish.

In response to chronic vertigo posted by JenniferGerics:

I talked so much last month about vertigo that I think I gave myself a case of it 2 weeks ago! I had bronchitis and it brought out all of my annoying symptoms. I had vertigo the other day, but took Dramamine and it worked.
