If you don't need a referral with your health coverage, you can visit a neurologist on your own. My old insurance enabled me to seek out a neurologist because I was getting the runaround from my primary doctor. If you don't need referrals from your primary care doctor, it might be a good idea to find a neurologist on your own. Then the neurologist can refer you for further testing (MRIs, CTs, etc) and your insurance will be billed instead of your having to pay out of pocket. MRIs, especially, are quite expensive ($2-4K a pop.)
