» Laurah909 - help
Hello,
I am writing to you in behalf of my friend, Jamie Matson. December 2005 Jamie was beaten almost to death in her home during a home invasion. Since then Jamie has been in a coma, had a portion of her skull removed and undergone several surgeries. After a year long battle with "Victims Assistant Funds", Jamie got to spent 60 days at Casa Colina rehabilitation center In Pomona, that was a wonderful opportunity and learning experience for Jamie. Jamie will always have brain damage but she is now attends Mount San Antonio College in Walnut CA. Jamie rides public transportation to and from school. She has made tremendous progress.
What I am trying to do is find an organization who can provide a much needed lap top computer for Jamie. Jamie has limited recourses and can not afford to purchase one for herself.
If you can help or know anyone who can, please contact me,

Hi Laura----
Thank you for writing. I can't fully say how sorry I am to hear about your friend Jamie. I don't understand violence and I can't fathom how people can inflict it onto others.
That said, I have an idea of where Jamie might be able to get a laptop. You might want to try contacting a vocational rehabilitation counselor in your state. These counselors work with people who are slightly to profoundly disabled, helping them find work and resources for work. They may be able to provide free computers. They also can help subsidize college costs. Are you in California? If so, the link to your state's voc rehab services is: http://www.rehab.cahwnet.gov/. You can also plug in "vocational rehabilitation" and the name of your state into a Google search. It looks like this department of the government is state-run.
If Jamie needs part-time work, there is also a company that provides telecommuting work specifically for those with disabilities. It's www.nticentral.org. I myself do work for them.
I hope these ideas help, or at least steer you and Jamie in the right direction. Take care and let me know what happens!
Sincerely,
Jennifer Gerics

Hi Jennifer, thank you so much for your information. Yes we are in California but presently there are no funds/ programs to help with a PC. Jamie's college classes fees were waved, so that was a blessing, I just need to get help with the computer so Jamie can do her homework. Thank you again. Laura
